Exploring Color Value - Art @ Home Curriculum Kit 🎨

Our Art @ Home Curriculum Kits take the projects, techniques and art concepts we're teaching inside Olive + Oak's Youth Art Club and turn them into an easy, ready-to-teach lesson your young artist can complete right at home.

This lesson is all about COLOR VALUE! Young artists will explore what happens when we mix white or black into a color, learn the difference between hue, tint, shade and value, experiment with creating their own value scale and then put those new skills to work creating a finished piece of art.

And don't worry, grown-ups - you don't have to be an art teacher! We've included a printed lesson plan to help you lead the activity, introduce the vocabulary and guide your artist through each project.

YOUR KIT INCLUDES:

🎨 14" Ice Cream Value Art Project

Artists choose a hue and gradually add white to create lighter tints, then use their new color-mixing skills to paint their oversized ice cream cone.

🎈 Balloon Color Value Activity

An 8.5" x 5.5" activity where artists can experiment with creating tints and shades before completing their larger project.

🖌️ Paint + Supplies

Paints needed for the lesson, paint brushes and glue for assembling the finished project.

✏️ 4 Laminated Art Vocabulary Cards

Colorful visual cards introduce and reinforce the terms Hue, Tint, Shade and Value.

📚 Parent Lesson Guide

A printed, easy-to-follow lesson plan walks you through the concept, discussion, activities and projects so you can confidently teach the lesson at home.

HAVE MORE THAN ONE ARTIST?

You only need one curriculum kit per family!

Choose how many Project Packs you need for each sibling completing the lesson with you. Additional student kits include the individual projects and consumable supplies needed for another artist without making you purchase another set of curriculum materials and vocabulary cards.

Recommended for elementary-aged artists. Younger artists may need additional grown-up assistance.
